About us
Operation Sunshine is a ministry of fellowship through travel and is provided by the Lehigh Mission District of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. This ministry began over 20 years ago by a group of forward thinkers who realized that as we age, our desire to be social and mobile does not diminish, but our abilities and opportunities to do so may not be so available. Along came the idea of Operation Sunshine. We provide the opportunity for many of our seniors to socialize through travel. Operation Sunshine is staffed completely by volunteers including Paula & Dick Skelly, our current Co-Trip Coordinators. Operation Sunshine provides mostly day trips, about one per month, however, we do offer occasional one, two or multi-day trips each year. We have expanded our outreach to include any adult who would like to travel to our advertised venues, and have even offered occasional day trips to include youngsters, such as our trip to see “Annie”.
